Book Updates: Love & Olives by Jenna Evans Welch

Today, I’m not covering the second day of BookConline (Sunday, May 31) as I could only catch one panel because of family matters. I‘m so glad everything was recorded and uploaded to the Facebook page and group. As soon as I get through those, I’ll make another post about it. In the meantime, I wanted to post a new Book Updates. The single panel I caught—Contemporary Fictions and Modern Day Storytellers—has inspired this post.

For those of you who don’t know Welch, she’s the contemporary fiction writer behind the Love & series. Some of you may be familiar with the debut novel Love & Gelato or the second book, Love & Luck. In both stories we’re whisked away on a fairy tale adventure in beautiful foreign countries with vivid descriptions, stunning character development, and a delicious dose of romance.

As soon as I heard about her next novel, Love & Olives I was over the moon with excitement. I’m an avid world traveler and all of her stories have been nothing but a treat, as I’m sure we can all agree with. So what all does this next adventure entail?

Love & Olives is the third book in the Love & series featuring a young protagonist by the name Liv Varanakis. She’s grown up without her father, who left when she was eight. The two didn’t share much outside of a similar passion for Greek Myths and a love that encompassed the depths of Atlantis. Years later, Liv jumps on the chance—and the next plane—to Santorini, Greece, when the very man who left asks for help with his documentary on beloved lost city. The story promises a tricky family dynamic similar to Welch’s other two novels, making me eager to dive in and find out just what secrets Live is discovering alongside her father’s protégé.

The cover features the same style as the previous novels. It’s beautiful, simplistic, and a great tie in with the rest of the series. There’s the Greece aspect in the tile work featuring a pink heart that has a pleasant contrast with the tan background and blue lettering. The textures on the cover are reminiscent of crumpled paper and I love the atmosphere it gives, luring the reader in and promising them an excellent story.

The book is due to hit shelves—and our eager hands—November 10, 2020. Of course, what follows the newest book is a stunning box set featuring all three novels. The front of the box shows off the cover of book 1 while the side view shows us each book in order. It’s a lovely assortment, each cover blending together thanks to the similar backgrounds of the books. Now the question becomes “To buy or not to buy”, isn’t that right Hamlet?

November couldn’t seem further away as we all eagerly await the release of Love & Olives, but if it means we get the same beautifully crafted story as its predecessors, it’s worth it. For those interested in learning more about Jenna Evans Welch, swing on over to her website, you won’t regret it. If you’re interested in diving into the Love & world, check out Love & Gelato.

That wraps up this month’s Book Updates. I’ll see you in the next post.

All the best.
